Snow causes flight delays at Vilnius airport

Heavy snowfall overnight caused flight disruptions at Vilnius Airport, with at least one flight delayed and further delays or diversions possible, Lithuanian Airports said Friday.

According to Lithuanian Airports, LTOU, difficult weather conditions led to isolated delays, and some aircraft may still be redirected to alternative airports.

“Due to challenging meteorological conditions overnight, including snowfall, isolated flight delays or diversions to alternative airports are possible,” LTOU spokeswoman Agnė Šaltenytė told BNS. “Airport teams are working to ensure flight safety and the smoothest possible operations.”

A Lufthansa flight from Frankfurt to Vilnius was delayed by more than 12 hours. The aircraft was scheduled to land at 23:55 Thursday but was expected to arrive at around noon on Friday.

“The flight from Frankfurt is delayed due to difficult meteorological conditions overnight,” Šaltenytė said.

Flight information from Vilnius Airport showed that planes were landing Friday morning, though some experienced minor delays.

Passengers are advised to check the latest flight information on the Vilnius Airport website and to contact their airlines directly for individual updates, LTOU said.
