Isaac (Izaokas), a drama directed by Jurgis Matulevičius, has been selected as Lithuania’s second candidate to for an Oscar nomination next year, the Lithuanian Film Centre said in a press release.
A month ago, a local commission approved by the American Academy of Motion Picture Art and Sciences picked The Jump, a documentary by Giedrė Žičkytė, as Lithuania’s Oscars nominee.
The Academy accepted The Jump’s candidacy for the best documentary nomination, allowing Lithuania to pick another movie for the best foreign-language film category.

Isaac is Matulevičius’ debut film based on a short story by a renowned Lithuanian writer Antanas Škėma. It tells the story of Andrius Gluosnis, who killed a Jew called Isaac during Kaunas Pogrom in 1941.
The movie plot focuses on a relationship between two friends, influenced by historical traumas and their love for one woman.
From the country submissions, the Academy will choose five nominees to vie for an Oscar in the best foreign-language film category.
The 94th Academy Awards will be handed out on March 27 next year.
