The European Commission Representation in Lithuania on Friday unveiled a mural titled Unity Fort in Vilnius to mark Europe Day, highlighting the themes of solidarity, resilience and European unity.

The artwork, created by Lithuanian artist Timotiejus Norvila, features the word “Unity” alongside the 12 stars of the European Union flag. According to the European Commission Representation, the mural conveys the message that Europeans are stronger and better prepared to face global challenges when acting together while defending freedom, democracy, the rule of law and human rights.

Marius Vaščega said the mural reflects the growing importance of European cohesion amid current geopolitical tensions.

“In today’s geopolitical context, European unity is becoming especially important,” Vaščega said in a statement, adding that the mural also symbolically points to Lithuania’s upcoming presidency of the Council of the European Union.

The Unity Fort mural is part of a broader street art initiative aimed at promoting the European Union.

The work uses blue and yellow tones associated with the EU’s visual identity, while also creating what organisers described as a sense of openness, light and vitality. Its geometric composition is built from repeating interconnected forms intended to visually express unity emerging from diversity.

Organisers said the Vilnius mural is the first in a planned series of EU-themed public artworks to be unveiled in other Lithuanian cities in the future.

Europe Day is celebrated annually on May 9 and commemorates the 1950 Schuman Declaration, widely regarded as the foundation of the modern European Union.
