Lithuania will request legal assistance from the United States in a human trafficking investigation linked to leaked correspondence of the late financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, the country’s prosecutor general said Thursday.
“An intensive investigation is underway, with approximately 20 individuals questioned so far. We do not yet have any persons recognised as victims,” Nida Grunskienė told the radio Žinių Radijas.
“Information is being gathered and analysed, and we are preparing to send a request for legal assistance to the United States,” she added.
Grunskienė also urged potential victims or individuals with relevant information to contact investigators directly.
The Prosecutor General's Office launched the pretrial investigation in early February after assessing information contained in leaked Epstein correspondence.
Authorities said the decision followed a detailed review of initial data, concluding that a comprehensive and objective examination of the circumstances could only be carried out through a formal pretrial investigation.
