Lithuania working to arrange Nausėda–Trump meeting, presidential aide says

Lithuania is working to arrange a meeting between President Gitanas Nausėda and US President Donald Trump, a senior presidential aide said Tuesday.

“Yes, of course,” Asta Skaisgirytė, Nausėda’s chief foreign policy adviser, told the radio Žinių Radijas when asked whether efforts were underway to organise such a meeting.

“Naturally, the president will meet with President Trump once a certain range of issues has matured,” she said.

Skaisgirytė stressed that preparations are necessary before any visit. “We must have, for example, something to bring to Washington, something to offer,” she said, adding that the current US administration is “very pragmatic, very result-oriented, and focused on specifics”.

Potential topics for discussion could include a possible agreement on critical minerals and Lithuania’s contribution to protecting the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global oil shipments, she said.

According to Delfi, Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė has also instructed Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys to seek a meeting with Trump or, alternatively, US Vice President JD Vance.

Skaisgirytė said she does not see the parallel efforts as institutional rivalry.

“The prime minister could also travel to the United States to meet, for example, with Vice President Vance,” she said.
