Domantas Sabonis attended the premiere of the Netflix series Starting Five on Tuesday night in anticipation of the start of the NBA season. The 28-year-old was joined on the red carpet by LeBron James (Los Angeles Lakers), Anthony Edwards (Minnesota Timberwolves), Jimmy Butler (Miami Heat), and Jayson Tatum (Boston Celtics).

“It’s an honour. There’s a lot of Hall of Famers in this list and just to be part of it and be part of Netflix and basically show Sacramento and what goes on in our city, you know. So I think it’s really cool. And I can’t wait to watch,” said the Sacramento Kings player at the premiere.

The documentary series will look behind the scenes of the 2023–2024 NBA season and the five players’ daily lives. The series will consist of 10 episodes.

“It was a lot, I couldn’t lie, but Netflix made it super easy,” Sabonis described his experience of being filmed for the series. “We wake up, cameras in your face. Days off, cameras. We’re on a plane, going on vacation, they’re with us.

“So they basically followed us everywhere. But they made it a lot of fun. You know, kids loved it.”

The basketball player was accompanied by his wife Shashana and son Oliver to the premiere of the series.

The Starting Five will be available to stream on Netflix from October 9.

Lithuanian-American Domantas Sabonis is the son of the legendary Lithuanian basketball player Arvydas Sabonis.
