Lithuania on Wednesday joined the US international initiative on strengthening cyber security following the government’s approval.

Lithuania’s decision to join the US government’s initiative to counter the proliferation and misuse of commercial spyware to protect democratic values and the world from cyber threats was approved following the Foreign Ministry’s proposal.

So far, Australia, Canada, Costa Rica, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Ireland, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Poland, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom have already joined the US initiative.

“Symbolically, Lithuania joins this meaningful initiative today, on September 11, as we commemorate the terrorist attacks on the United States that shocked the free world,” Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis was quoted as saying in the ministry’s statement.

“On September 11, 2001, more than 90 countries around the world, including Lithuania, lost their citizens, and this date remains an important starting point for mobilising the world’s democracies against terrorism and new threats, and for rallying all possible support for Ukraine’s victory,” he said.

Lithuania’s decision to join the Joint Statement will be formally announced during a high-level session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on September 22.
