Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda arrived in Kyiv on Wednesday, to attend Ukraine’s Independence Day celebrations and the summit of the international Crimea Platform.

The president will also meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to discuss assistance to his country as well as Ukraine’s EU membership negotiations, the president’s office said.

“I have just arrived in Kyiv where I will meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, celebrate Ukraine’s Independence Day with Ukraine, and attend the summit of the international Crimea Platform,” Nausėda posted on Facebook on Wednesday. “Lithuania supports and will support Ukraine as long as it takes, until victory.”

Nausėda’s visit to Kyiv had not been previously announced.

Žygimantas Pavilionis, the chair of the Lithuanian parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs, is also visiting Ukraine.

The chairs of the Foreign Affairs Committees of the EU and NATO countries and lawmakers who are the most active on Ukraine issues will discuss further tightening international sanctions on Russia and support for Ukraine’s reconstruction.

They will also talk about the launch of Ukraine’s EU membership negotiations and the country’s preparations. Lawmakers will also discuss the situation after the NATO summit in Vilnius in July and the prospects of inviting Ukraine to join NATO ahead of the meeting in Washington in July 2024.
