Lithuania welcomes the decision to allow EU’s member states to limit imports of natural gas from Russia, said Deputy Energy Minister Albinas Zananavičius.

On Tuesday, the European Council allowed member states to take proportionate measures to temporarily limit imports from Belarus and Russia.

“The European Union needs to make efforts to ensure that energy is being imported only from reliable energy suppliers in third countries,” Zanavičius was quoted in a press release by the Energy Ministry.

The initiative was proposed jointly by Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia, Finland, and Poland, which was also supported by the European Commission.

Zanavičius also welcomed the decision to extend the transition phase for implementing detailed rules for hydrogen till 2035, until this market matured enough.
