Brussels Airlines, the only carrier operating direct flights from Lithuania to Brussels is suspending its service between Vilnius and the Belgian capital as of October 28, the 15min news website reported on Thursday.
“Due to low demand between Brussels and Vilnius during the winter season, these flights will not be operated during this period,” the airline told the website. “Since demand for such flights was low, the number of affected customers is also low.”
The airline is planning to relaunch the Brussels-Vilnius flight in late March, Lietuvos Oro Uostai (Lithuanian Airports, LOU) told BNS on Thursday.
“They have officially notified us that they are suspending flights from the end of October, but we have also received their plans to resume the route from the summer season next year,” said Tadas Vasiliauskas, LOU spokesman.
Ryanair offers direct flights between Kaunas and Charleroi Airport, more than 50 kilometers from the center of Brussels.
