The conservative Homeland Union–Lithuanian Christian Democrats (TS-LKD) tops Lithuania’s party rankings, followed by the Democratic Union For Lithuania in second place and the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party (LSDP) in third, according to the latest Spinter Tyrimai opinion poll published by Delfi.lt on Monday.
Some 13.4 percent of respondents said in late June they would vote for the ruling Homeland Union if general elections were held next Sunday, almost unchanged from 13.5 percent a month ago.
Meanwhile, the Democratic Union For Lithuania – a new party founded by former prime minister Saulius Skvernelis – saw its popularity rise to 11.6 percent, from 8.5 percent in June. Meanwhile, the LSDP, another opposition party, dipped to 11.2 percent, from 12.4 percent.
The opposition Farmers and Greens Union ranked fourth with voter support up to 6.4 percent, from 5.7 percent a month ago, followed by the ruling Liberal Movement, with 5.5 percent, slightly up from 5.4 percent.
Further down the list were the Freedom and Justice Party with 5.1 percent (4.5 percent), the liberal Freedom Party, the third member of the government coalition, with 3.6 percent (4.3 percent), and the Labour Party with 2.9 percent (3.4 percent).
Some 8.3 percent of respondents said they would vote for another party, 12.6 percent said they would not vote at all, and another 19.4 percent were undecided or did not answer the question.
When asked to name a politician or a public figure best fitted to lead the government, the largest percentage of respondents, 19.2 percent, chose Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė.
Saulius Skvernelis, a former prime minister and the leader of the Democratic Union For Lithuania, came in second with 12.5 percent, followed by MEP Vilija Blinkevičiūtė, the LSDP leader, with 6.2 percent.
When asked about the current government’s performance, 32.3 percent of those polled in June had a positive or rather positive opinion, down from 35.7 percent in May.
Spinter Tyrimai polled 1,015 people on June 18-28, with 50 percent interviewed by phone and the rest online.
