Free Lithuanian language courses for war refugees from Ukraine are being organised in Vilnius, the Centre for the Advancement of Education announced on Monday.
“It is very important to help Ukrainians who have come to Lithuania to feel part of the community and provide an opportunity to work to their full potential, which can often be hindered by the language barrier,” said the head of the centre Unė Kaunaitė.
The Lithuanian language courses are aimed at adults residing in Vilnius and will be taught by volunteer students and teachers from the Faculty of Philology of Vilnius University.
“There is no doubt that the opportunity to be part of the community is crucial at this time, so we invite people to register for live courses,” Kaunaitė said. “The strong mobilisation and willingness of Vilnius residents to help are evident, with students and teachers volunteering their time.”

The first groups will start learning Lithuanian on March 16-18, with others to follow. One course will last three months and consist of 25 sessions.
Ukrainian refugees who wish to participate in the Lithuanian language course must fill in the registration form.
More than 12,000 Ukrainian citizens have arrived in Lithuania since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
