American actor Clint Eastwood has won a case against a Lithuanian web development company Mediatonas that has used the actor’s name illegaly to advertise CBD products.

The company, registered in a small village in Western Lithuania, must pay 6.1 million dollars in compensation to the movie star, the Los Angeles Federal Court ruled on Friday.

Last year, Eastwood filed two lawsuits against three CBD manufacturers and marketers who published articles falsely claiming that the actor endorsed CBD products, The New York Times reported on Sunday.

The court entered a default judgement after Mediatonas, which published fabricated articles, failed to respond to a court summons. Eastwood and Garrapata, the company that owns the rights to his likeness, were awarded 6.1 million US dollars based on the unauthorised use of the actor’s name, along with about 95,000 dollars in attorneys’ fees.

“Mr Eastwood has no connection of any kind whatsoever to any CBD products,” the court documents said.

Mediatonas has not responded to LRT’s request for comment. The company made 600,000 euros in profit in 2020 and is currently undergoing liquidation.
