It‘s that time of the year and we’re kicking off the Eurovision season. Lithuania held it’s first national selection show Saturday, picking two out of ten songs that will go to the national finals.
A little bit of old, a little bit of new, and a little bit of utterly bizarre – the usual fare of Eurovision – well described semi-final one out of five this Saturday that included eight performances.
Ikona Žemtaitė, by Rug!lė, was the evening’s hit, drawing inspiration from a canonical Lithuanian author (and attempting to make assigned school reading cool). The song scored best with the jury and was the number-two favourite of the televoters. Stand Up, by Noy, did best with the televoters, though rather less with the jury, but that was enough to win the second spot in the national final on February 27.

The rest had some fun and exposure and gave us an entertaining evening. Here is the line-up of the first semi-final in the order of the overall score:
Rug!lė, Ikona Žemaitė (qualified)
Noy, Stand Up (qualified)
Thomas G, One Night Lover
Elizabeth Olshey, Between
The Ditties, Mambo
Aistė Pilvelytė, Tarp žvaigždžių tylos
Valdas Lacko, Pabandom
Siga, Noriu jo
