Lithuania’s Customs Department destroyed a record amount of narcotic and psychotropic substances in 2025, along with large quantities of tobacco products and alcohol, the agency said Monday.
Customs officials destroyed 755 kilograms of narcotic and psychotropic substances last year, including their precursors and substances not listed in official registries. Most of the total consisted of 498 kilograms of heroin seized by the Customs Criminal Service.
The agency also destroyed more than 150 million cigarettes, nearly 40,000 kilograms of tobacco and 1,600 litres of alcoholic beverages in 2025.
In addition, almost 113,000 items infringing intellectual property rights – including counterfeit clothing and footwear – were destroyed.
Customs said the scale of destroyed drugs and the growing volume of intellectual property violations reflect its sustained efforts to reduce risks to public health and safety and to ensure fair competition in the market.
Beyond destruction procedures, Lithuanian Customs also sold goods that did not have European Union customs status in 2025. These goods, originating from third countries and not cleared for free circulation because taxes were unpaid, may be resold outside the EU but not within it.
The total value of goods sold amounted to 973,000 euros. Customs announced 33 tenders and held 132 electronic auctions during the year. Electronic auctions generated 236,500 euros, while tenders accounted for 732,000 euros. An additional 4,300 euros was generated through the transfer of property under a trust agreement.
Humanitarian assistance to Ukraine was also a key part of Customs activities in 2025. The agency transferred 70 vehicles and other assets with a total customs value of 201,000 euros to Ukraine.
