Lithuania's Economy and Innovation Ministry on Tuesday offered businesses up to 1 million euros to submit proposals on solutions to protect Lithuanian airspace.
The announcement follows a spate of incidents, which Lithuanian officials are calling a hybrid attack by the Minsk regime, when balloons used by smugglers crossed from Belarus last week, disrupting operations at Vilnius and Kaunas airports.
The three shortlisted proposals will each receive 300,000 euros to develop technological solutions before being tested in “real conditions”, the ministry said.
To receive funding, companies must submit an idea or concept for a solution that can be quickly developed into a prototype and put into practice.
Proposals will be evaluated based on their technological feasibility and realistic implementation potential, according to the ministry.
