Lithuania to triple daily train services to Poland

Lithuanian rail company LTG Link, part of the state-owned Lithuanian Railways (LTG) group, will triple the number of passenger train routes to Poland beginning December 14, expanding from one daily service to three, the company announced Tuesday.

The new routes will connect Vilnius with Warsaw and Krakow, Szczecin, and Suwalki, significantly improving cross-border travel options.

According to LTG Link, travel times will also shorten, and connections with other European cities will become more convenient once the new schedule takes effect.

“I am pleased with the results of our cooperation with partners in Poland,” Transport Minister Juras Taminskas said in a statement. “More frequent international train services will ensure more comfortable connections with our neighbours. Passengers will travel faster and more conveniently not only between the two countries but also to other European destinations.”

Passengers will still be able to take the midday Vilnius–Warsaw–Krakow service, but travel time will be reduced by one hour to Warsaw and by two hours to Krakow.

A new early-morning train to Szczecin, near Poland’s border with Germany, will allow travellers to reach Warsaw by midday and Szczecin by 19:00. The route will also provide access to Poznan.

“We believe that the new routes and shorter travel times will further encourage people to choose sustainable train travel, whether for leisure or business,” LTG Link CEO Kristina Meidė said in the statement.

LTG Link said the shorter Vilnius–Warsaw journey and more flexible timetables will make it easier for passengers to transfer to other domestic and international trains. From Warsaw, travellers will have convenient connections to Prague, Vienna, Berlin, and Kyiv, as well as to Polish destinations such as Gdansk and Zakopane, both by day and overnight trains.
