Government to present guidelines for AI use in Lithuanian schools

BNS 2025.04.22 10:34

A working group set up by the Lithuanian Education, Science and Sport Ministry is expected to draft rules for the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in schools and develop at least one model tool by early August.

According to Deputy Education Minister Jonas Petkevičius, artificial intelligence is rapidly changing the way students learn and teachers teach, and schools need help adapting.

“It is necessary to create a quality assurance system for the implementation of AI that would include a legal framework, support tools for schools, and instruments to reduce the administrative burden,” Petkevičius said in a press release.

“We will present the rules for AI use before September, along with at least one model AI tool,” he added.

At its first meeting last Thursday, the working group discussed the main directions for the action plan and agreed that establishing a unified set of AI rules for schools should be a top priority, the ministry said.
