Lithuania's Interior Ministry has allocated 12 million euros for the upgrade of shelter infrastructure in 51 municipalities.
"As planned, 12 million euros will be allocated to municipalities to upgrade shelters where people can take refuge in case of danger," Interior Minister Vladislav Kondratovič told reporters on Thursday..
Over 18 months, this money will be invested in 350 bomb shelters across Lithuania.
The number of shelters has almost doubled recently, Kondratovič pointed out, adding that their number will continue to grow.
According to the Interior Ministry, there are more than 6,400 shelters in Lithuanian municipalities, which would provide space for around 1.5 million people, or 54 percent of the country's population.
