Lithuanian publisher removes Vance’s book from sale, urges to read Ukrainian authors

Sofoklis, a Lithuanian publishing house, said on Tuesday it is removing a book by US Vice President JD Vance from sale and urged people to read books by Ukrainian authors instead.

The move comes after the US paused military aid to Ukraine.

“Following the US presidential administration’s decision to suspend aid to Ukraine, Sofoklis is withdrawing JD Vance’s Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis from sale as long as US foreign policy towards Ukraine remains unchanged,” the publishing house said in a Facebook post.

“We invite you to support Ukraine and read books by Ukrainian authors published by Sofoklis and other publishers and donate to Blue/Yellow,” it added.

US President Donald Trump announced his decision to pause military aid for Ukraine on Monday.

The US administration is thus increasing pressure on Kyiv to come to the peace negotiating table with Russia. This comes after an angry spat between Trump, US Vice President JD Vance, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House on Friday.
