The Science Island, Lithuania’s first Science and Innovation Promotion Centre on Kaunas Nemunas Island, is opening to the public on Friday.
In the afternoon, an official ribbon-cutting ceremony will be attended by Kaunas Mayor Visvaldas Matijošaitis, the head of the Science Island Aistė Lukaševičiūtė, and children of all ages from Kaunas educational institutions.
Later, at 16:00, the museum will open its doors to the general public. On Friday evening, a concert will take place, followed by three days of science shows, lectures, robot battles and other events.

The museum plans to welcome around 300–400 visitors to the permanent exhibition on Friday and 800 visitors on Saturday and Sunday. A further 1,000 visitors are expected daily at the free opening events.
Before the opening to the general public, on Thursday, the Science Island hosted a private evening attended by guests invited by Matijošaitis, including President Gitanas Nausėda, Seimas Speaker Saulius Skvernelis, as well as Kaunas politicians and cultural figures.

The Science Island features around 140 exhibits on the topics of the human body and health, food, nature and environment, waste and pollution, energy, as well as transport and communication.
The ticket price for the permanent exhibition is 17 euros for an adult and 12 euros for a child. Tickets for the planetarium cost 8 and 6 euros respectively. There is also a 50-euro family ticket for one or two adults with two or three children.
The total cost of the Science Island project is estimated at around 38 million euros. The project was financed by the European Union, the municipality and the state. The museum was built by Autokausta and designed by the Polish company Trias Avi.
