The Spanish citizen who was piloting the DHL cargo plane that crashed in Vilnius last week has been transferred to his home country for further treatment, Santaros Clinics, where he has been receiving treatment so far, has said.
“The patient injured in the plane crash received the highest level of medical care by the medical staff of the Santaros Clinics. At the request of his family, he was transferred to Spain for further treatment,” said Jurgita Juozaitytė-Markevičienė, head of the hospital’s Communication Service.
The DHL cargo plane crashed close to the Vilnius Airport last week, killing one Spanish national and injuring three other crew members, including another Spaniard, a German, and a Lithuanian national.
The cause of the crash is still being determined, as it is being investigated by Lithuania’s law enforcement authorities, an international commission of aviation safety experts, coordinated by the Justice Ministry, and the company itself. Officials have not yet ruled out the possibility of sabotage.
The crashed Boeing 737 belonged to Spanish airline Swiftair and was used by DHL for parcel deliveries. The aircraft was flying to Vilnius from Leipzig, Germany
