Apple is acquiring a Lithuanian graphics editing app Pixelmator created by brothers Aidas and Saulius Dailidė.
“We have big news: the Pixelmator Team plans to join Apple,” the company said in a statement. “It's hard to fathom what a small group of dedicated people have accomplished.”
The acquisition of Pixelmator is subject to approval by market regulators, the statement added. The deal will not result in significant changes to the Pixelmator Pro, Photomator, and Pixelmator for iOS for iPhone products.
The value of the transaction and other related circumstances are currently undisclosed. LRT.lt has contacted Pixelmator but has not yet received a reply.
The first Pixelmator app was released in 2007, and the Pixelmator Team was founded in 2009 in the village of Babrauninkai in the Trakai district, eastern Lithuania. The address of its registered office was later changed to Vilnius.
Initially, one of the brothers, Aidas Dailidė, was the sole shareholder. In 2020, the company's shareholders grew to include Saulius Dailidė, the chief technology officer Simonas Bastys, and software engineer Rimas Mickevičius.

In 2023, Pixelmator Team reported revenues of 1.99 million euros and earned a net profit of 423,000 euros. In June, it reported its 2024 revenue of 1.46 million euros and a net profit of 552,000 euros.
The company has won several Apple awards – the most recent was the 2023 App Store Awards for Photomator, which was named the best Mac application of the year.
Another app, Pixelmator Pro, has recently made it possible to use artificial intelligence in editing, like hiding the background of an image.
The Pixelmator Team has seen its headcount decline in recent years. The average number of employees on the company's roster was 27 in 2022, 25 in 2023, and 20 in 2024.
According to the latest data from the Lithuanian social security fund SoDra, the company has 19 employees with an average salary of around 4,575 euros after tax.
