Ruslan Stefanchuk, speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine’s parliament, said in Vilnius that he had no doubt Lithuania would continue its current support for Ukraine after the general election.
“I want to congratulate all of you, our dear Lithuanian friends, on the parliamentary election that meets the highest standards of democracy,” Stefanchuk said during a session of the Assembly of the Seimas and the Verkhovna Rada on Monday.
“I have no doubt that, based on the results of the second round, the citizens of Lithuania will choose representatives who will be honourable and will continue our friendship,” the Ukrainian parliamentary speaker said.
“[They] will continue the current Seimas’ work and exemplary support for Ukraine in its fight for independence,” he added.
Lithuania will hold the second round of the general election on Sunday.
The session of the Seimas-Verkhovna Rada Assembly focuses on strengthening bilateral parliamentary dialogue, defence and security cooperation, and Ukraine’s proposed victory plan.
President Volodymyr Zelensky unveiled the five-point victory plan to his country’s parliament last week. It consists of an invitation for Ukraine to join NATO, a defence aspect, deterrence against Russian aggression, economic growth and cooperation, and a post-war security architecture.
