The Paris Olympic Games have come to an end, and Lithuanian athletes took home four medals – two silver and two bronze. The medallists, as well as other Olympians who finished high in the finals, will receive generous state awards.
Discus thrower Mykolas Alekna and breakdancer Dominika Banevič (B-girl Nicka) secured 83,875 euros from the state for winning the Olympic silver.
Meanwhile, bronze medal-winning rower Viktorija Senkutė and the Lithuanian men’s 3x3 basketball team of Aurelijus Pukelis, Šarūnas Vingelis, Evaldas Džiaugys, and Gintautas Matulis will receive 62,920 euros.
The Lithuanian athletes were promised 167,695 for the Olympic gold medal in Paris. This bonus, which was among the most generous in the world, will remain unclaimed.
However, the Lithuanian athletes who did not win any medals at the Paris Olympics, but performed well in the finals, will also receive financial awards.
Swimmers Kotryna Teterevkova and Danas Rapšys, rowers Ieva Adomavičiūtė and Kamilė Kralikaitė, and quadruple kayakers Simonas Maldonis, Mindaugas Maldonis, Ignas Navakauskas, and Artūras Seja, all of whom finished fifth in their finals, secured 25,190 euros.
Meanwhile, wrestlers Gabija Dilytė and Mantas Knystautas, as well as pentathlete Gintarė Venčkauskaitė will receive 12,595 euros for finishing seventh. Discus thrower Andrius Gudžius and rowers Domantas and Dovydas Stankūnai, who finished eighth in their Olympic finals, will be awarded 8,415 euros.
