Train delays
Passenger train delays of at least one hour have been reported on some routes in Lithuania on Monday due obstructed tracks and power supply disruptions, and scheduled freight services may be delayed for up to a day, Lietuvos Geležinkeliai (Lithuanian Railways, LTG), the country’s state-owned railway company, says.
“Some 30 train services have been affected at this stage and information is being updated as the storm in Lithuania shows no sign of abating,” LTG said in a statement on Monday.

According to the company, trains may be delayed for about an hour on the Vilnius–Klaipėda, Mažeikiai-Panevėžys and Vilnius–Varėna routes. The storm has significantly affected train services from Vilnius to Turmantas and Kaunas and from Šiauliai to Riga.
According to LTG, train traffic has been suspended near Riga due to ongoing storm-related repair works, and buses were booked this morning to take train passengers from Jelgava to Riga.
The storm has also disrupted power supply at the terminals in Kena, Šeštokai and Radviliškis, and there is no power on the sections from Radviliškis to Maseikiai and towards Joniškis, fallen trees on tracks have been reported on Naujoji Vilnia–Turmantas stretch.
According to LTG, obstacles have been removed from key railway routes but freight service delays can last up to 24 hours as passenger trains move first once obstacles are cleared.
Strong winds will also restrict the operation of intermodal terminals today.
