The Belarusian Foreign Ministry has summoned the temporary charge d’affaires of the Lithuanian and EU missions over the queues at the Lithuania-Belarus border, the Russian state news agency TASS reports.
“Temporary charge d’affaires of the Lithuanian and EU Delegation in Belarus have been summoned to the Foreign Ministry. The arbitrariness at the Lithuanian-Belarusian border is an indisputable violation of fundamental human rights,” wrote the Telegram channel Glas MFA, which is close to the press service of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry.
The message states that “citizens who have been standing for 24 hours in artificially created queues on the Lithuanian side have the legitimate right to carry foods and medicines for their personal use”.
The report states that Lithuania is being asked to remove the import ban and facilitate border crossings.
On June 3, Lithuania imposed a ban on imports of more than 2,800 agricultural products and feed of Russian and Belarusian origins. The ban will be in force until May 2, 2025.
