School rebuilt with Lithuanian funding opens in Ukraine

BNS 2024.03.15 17:40

A school rebuilt with Lithuanian funding opened its doors in Borodyanka, a war-torn town near Kyiv, on Friday.

The school is ready to welcome back 700 Ukrainian students, the Lithuanian Central Project Management Agency (CPMA) said in a press release.

The reconstruction of the school cost almost 8 million euros, most of which was provided by Lithuania through the Fund for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid. The Taiwanese Representative Office in Lithuania contributed another 1.8 million euros for the indoor equipment, furniture, and outdoor infrastructure.

The school in Borodyanka “has now been transformed into a completely new, modern three-story building”, the agency said.

“The classrooms are equipped with smart boards and interactive tables for primary education. Teachers’ workspaces are furnished with computers, printers, and other educational devices. The school’s recreational areas are decorated with paintings by Ukrainian artist Julia Trypolska,” it said.

“A first-of-its-kind standalone underground shelter adjacent to the school was also built. It can accommodate up to 800 people at a time. The school is connected to the shelter by an annex with an elevator and staircase; the shelter also has a direct exit to the outdoors,” the agency added.

The Borodyanka school project was initiated by the Lithuanian government and implemented by the CPMA.
