Lithuanian Railways (LTG) will be operating four trains in full holiday decoration during the Christmas season as a way to encourage more passengers to use public transport instead of private cars.
“This year, we can already say with certainty that the Christmas trains, which are very popular with passengers, are becoming a tradition, encouraging sustainable travel […]. As every year, this initiative invites you to experience a journey on trains decorated with the themes of Orient Express or the Christmas Story. We see that the demand for special journeys grows every year, so this year, together with Go Vilnius, we will offer a choice of four different trains,” Dovilė Aleksandravičienė, spokeswoman for LTG Link, was quoted in a press release.
The four trains will be serving four routes until January 7: Vilnius–Kaunas, Vilnius–Klaipėda, Vilnius–Trakai and Vilnius–Mockava.
The latter is a connection to a train to Warsaw. The decorated cars will be serving the route until December 26, after which they will start coursing on the new Vilnius–Riga line, according to LTG Link.

“With this project, I want to encourage passengers to both immerse themselves in memories and create new ones. The Vilnius–Klaipėda and Vilnius–Mockava (and later Vilnius–Riga) routes will be burgundy-coloured trains filled with the past, while the Vilnius–Kaunas and Vilnius–Trakai routes will be decorated with bright traditional Christmas symbols,” says Mantas Petruškevičius, florist and decorator.
According to LTG Link, over 74,000 people have travelled on festive trains in the last two years.
