Some 42,000 cruise passengers and 41 cruise ships visited the Lithuanian port of Klaipėda this year, data from the Klaipėda State Seaport Authority showed on Friday as the cruise ship season comes to an end.
Last year, 61 ships and almost 50,000 tourists visited Klaipėda.
“Shipping lines are looking for alternatives due to the geopolitical situation in the region. We hope that both new ships and new shipping companies will discover Klaipeda in the coming season,” Algis Latakas, the port’s CEO, said.
The last cruise ship of the year, the Marshall Islands-flagged Silver Dawn, will dock in Klaipėda on Sunday.
Four cruise liners have arrived in Klaipėda for the first time this season, and one new shipping company has added the Lithuanian port to its route.
