Lithuania, alongside five other NATO nations, signed an implementation agreement to acquire 100 CV90 MkIV infantry fighting vehicles, Lithuania’s Defence Ministry said on Wednesday evening.
Under the agreement, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Finland and Norway have authorised Sweden to represent their national requirements in negotiations for a joint framework agreement. This contract will serve as the basis for subsequent national procurement deals expected to be signed later this year.
“Joint acquisitions of this scale not only allow for more efficient use of resources but also ensure interoperability among allied forces throughout the platform’s life cycle – from shared logistics and maintenance to manoeuvres and battlefield tasks,” Defence Minister Robertas Kaunas said.
According to the ministry, the CV90 MkIV is the latest version of the infantry fighting vehicle developed by BAE Systems Hagglunds, featuring enhanced protection, advanced command and weapons systems, and the capacity to integrate domestic solutions.
Kaunas previously said the first CV90 units are expected to arrive in Lithuania in 2028 and onwards. Options for partial assembly and equipment installation within Lithuania are also being considered.
