Thunderstorms were observed n Marijampolė, Alytus, Panevėžys, Kaunas and Vilnius districts, in Utena and other places. Squalls and hail hit some places, causing most damage in Ignalina, eastern Lithuania, where strong winds uprooted trees, damaged roofs, broke powerlines, and water flooded some streets.
On Wednesday evening, residents began sharing pictures of hail on Facebook. Hail was reported from Vilkaviškis, Rokiškis and Jonava.
In Ignalina, hail swept through the city, flooding streets and cutting power lines.
The storm also passed through Kazlų Rūda.

According to meteorologists, eastern and central parts of Lithuania were most affected by the storm on Wednesday.
“Between 18:00 and 19:00, residents of Suvalkija and north-western districts, near Rokiškis, recorded quite large hail. The effects of increased wind were also noticeable. [...] A wind speed of 26.6 m/s was recorded at the Švenčionys meteorological station,” they said.
Heavy rain also hit parts of the country, with Ukmergė reporting 46 mm of rainfall in less than two hours. Rain was recorded in the areas around of Kaunas, Varėna and Utena, forecasters said.

After midnight, thunderstorms abated. Heavy rain persisted in the western and central regions of the country.
The Situation Coordination Unit of the Fire and Rescue Department told BNS that by 21.00, 33 cases of removing fallen trees had been registered.
“The highest number of incidents was in Ignalina District. The firefighters found four trees,” the fire service spokesman said.

Over the past 24 hours, firefighters responded to 112 calls to remove fallen trees.
Four times firefighters went to remove trees from cars and three times to remove trees from buildings in Kaunas, Molėtai and Ignalina.
According to initial reports, no one was injured in these incidents, the Situation Coordination Office of the Fire and Rescue Department told BNS on Thursday morning.
More than 18,000 households were left without electricity, according to ESO.
