On Tuesday, Lithuania's National Energy Regulatory Council approved plans to cut natural gas prices for households by 4-5 cents per cubic metre for the second half of the year.
Following the approval of the tariffs submitted by Lithuania's gas supplier Ignitis, the gas tariff for the first consumer group, which uses the lowest amount of gas, will amount to 1.36 euros with the state compensation as of July 1, compared to the existing 1.40 euros.
The second group, including households heating their homes with gas, will see the gas price drop from 92 to 87 cents, and the third consuming the largest amount of gas will see their tariff go down from 88 to 83 cents.
Last week, the Lithuanian government backed a proposal to extend the existing gas price compensation for households for the second half of the year. The compensation will amount to 63 cents per cubic metre, instead of the existing 99 cents, and will require 54.48 million euros from unused state borrowings in the first half of the year.
