Polish and Baltic nationals have been detained in Belarus for spying, head of the Belarusian KGB Ivan Tertel said on Tuesday, Belarusian state news agency BelTA has reported.

“Let me tell you a secret: we have detained a number of Polish nationals carrying out spying operations in our country,” Tertel said.

There are also nationals of the Baltic states among those detained for spying in Belarus, he added.

The Belarusian official did not mention whether there were any Lithuanian citizens among the detainees. This information was not confirmed by the Lithuanian authorities.

“The Lithuanian Foreign Ministry and the Embassy in Belarus have not received any information from the Belarusian authorities about the citizens of the Republic of Lithuania detained in the context mentioned in the article,” the ministry said in a comment sent to LRT.lt.

According to the Belarusian KGB head, “dozens of Ukrainian citizens” have also been detained in Belarus for attempted terrorism, reconnaissance, and espionage activities.
