Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda on Wednesday formally asked the parliament to dismiss Žydrūnas Bartkus, whose five-year term as head of the Special Investigation Service (STT) is about to expire.
Nausėda has signed a decree asking the Seimas to dismiss Bartkus from the post he has held since March 30, 2018.
The president, however, has not yet named a candidate to take over as the STT director.
“The decision has not been taken yet. It will be made in the near future,” Tomas Beržinskas, a presidential adviser, told BNS.
Jovitas Raskevičius, first deputy director of STT, will serve as acting director until a permanent successor to Bartkus is appointed, the president’s office said in a press release.
STT’s main functions are the investigation of corruption cases, corruption prevention, analytical anti-corruption intelligence, and anti-corruption awareness raising.
