The number of reports of possible violations of children’s rights in Lithuania increased by 13 percent last year to 45,758, the State Child Rights Protection and Adoption Service said in a report on Thursday.
However, 36 percent of these reports proved to be unfounded, according to the report.
A total of 3,228 cases of possible violence against children were recorded last year, with 2,866 children possibly affected. The figures have been growing since 2020, when 2,877 cases of possible violence were recorded, possibly affecting 2,486 children.
While boys (1,347) were more likely than girls (869) to have been subjected to possible physical violence, girls (256) were more likely than boys (44) to have been subjected to sexual violence, the report said.
