Fierce thunderstorms hit Lithuania this week – and no respite is expected over the weekend.
A low pressure area means that the sky will be cloudy, and rain with thunderstorms may break out, Paulius Starkus, a synoptic meteorologist at the Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service (LHMT), tells LRT RADIO. Similar, slightly calmer weather is expected to continue over the weekend.
On Friday, the sky will be cloudy and short, summer rains with thunderstorms are forecast in many districts, accompanied by hail and sleet. Wind gusts of up to 15-20 m/s during the storm and up to 23 m/s in the north-eastern part of the country are expected. Temperatures are expected to rise to 24-29C, with cooler temperatures of 19-23C Celsius in western areas.
On Saturday, short showers and thunderstorms are forecast in many areas. Overnight fog is possible in some places. Expect western winds, 4-9 m/s at night, gusting up to 16 m/s during thunderstorms, 6-11 m/s during the day. Temperatures will rise 11-16C at night, 20-25C during the day, 17-19C at the seaside.
On Sunday, brief rain are expected in some places and thunderstorms are possible during the day. Winds from the west, moderate at night and light during the day, will prevail. Temperatures of 10-15C at night, 20-25C during the day are expected, with 17-19C at the seaside.
