The Lithuanian Armed Forces warned on Wednesday that there will be convoys of military vehicles on the roads as a number of international air, land and sea exercises are set to begin.
Swift Response 2022, an international exercise organised annually by the US Army Europe and Africa, will run between May 6 and 20, the military said in a press release.
The exercise will demonstrate the ability to conduct simultaneous airborne operations in Northern and Eastern Europe, the Baltics and the Balkans, and will involve around 9,000 troops from 17 NATO and partner countries.
Some of the drills will take place in the Gaižiūnai training area in the central district of Jonava, as well as in the surrounding districts.
Iron Wolf 2022 I, an international military exercise closely linked to Rapid Response 2022, is also getting underway in Gaižiūnai on May 5.

The two-week exercise will involve around 1,000 military vehicles, including tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, armoured personnel carriers, supply and administrative vehicles, and more than 3,000 troops from Lithuania and other NATO countries.
Open Spirit 2022, an international unexploded ordnance detection and disposal operation will be held in Lithuania's territorial waters and exclusive economic zone in the Baltic Sea between May 16 and 20. The EODEX 2022 drills for explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) divers will take place at the same time.
The exercise and ordnance disposal operation will involve 13 warships, nine EOD diver teams and other specialists from 13 NATO countries.
