Lithuania has signed a contract to purchase new counter-unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) systems for its armed forces, the defence ministry said on Monday.
The systems will be configured to detect, identify, and neutralise UAVs by suppressing navigation, video transmission, and control signals, the ministry said.
The Defence Materiel Agency signed the contract with NT Service, a Lithuanian company, last week.
“The use of drones has increased lately, both for reconnaissance purposes and for carrying cargo that can pose a direct threat to people, critical infrastructure, and military units,” Defence Minister Arvydas Anušauskas said in a press release.

“In the ongoing war in Ukraine, we can also observe an increase in the use of UAVs by Russian forces and the threats they pose,” he added.
The value of the contract is almost 4 million euros. A large part of the equipment is to be delivered to the Lithuanian Armed Forces this year.
Last week, the Lithuanian defence ministry announced the acquisition of additional Javelin anti-tank missile systems worth 40 million US dollars (around 36.3 million euros).
