The global gap in travel freedoms has never been wider, according to a study by London-based global citizenship and residence advisory firm Henley & Partners. But Lithuanians have nothing to fear as their passport has made it to the list of the most powerful for 2021.

The Henley Passport Index, based on exclusive data provided by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), has been monitoring the world’s most travel-friendly passports since 2006, CNN Travel reported on Tuesday.

According to Henley & Partners, travel bans that have been increasingly introduced over the past 18 months of the pandemic have led to the widest global mobility gap in monitoring history.

But the index does not take temporary restrictions into account, so holders of passports at the top of its ranking – Japan and Singapore – are able, in theory, to travel visa-free to 192 destinations.

Further down, the EU countries dominate the list of travel freedoms. Germany and South Korea have tied in second place with 190 visa-free destinations. Finland, Italy, Luxembourg, and Spain came in third with 189 destinations.

Lithuania with 182 visa-free destinations has also made it to the list, sharing 10th place with Poland and Slovakia.

According to the Henley Passport Index, among the worst passports to hold were Afghanistan with 26 destinations, Iraq with 28, and Syria with 29.

The best passports to hold in 2021:
1. Japan, Singapore (192 destinations)
2. Germany, South Korea (190)
3. Finland, Italy, Luxembourg, Spain (189)
4. Austria, Denmark (188)
5. France, Ireland, Netherlands, Portugal, Sweden (187)

7. Czech Republic, Greece, Malta, Norway, United Kingdom, United States (185)
8. Australia, Canada (184)

10. Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia (182)
