Overall, 278,072 people have tested positive for Covid-19 in Lithuania since the start of the pandemic.

Prime minister gets second jab

Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė received her second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine on Wednesday morning.

The prime minister was vaccinated at the Litexpo vaccination centre in Vilnius.

Meanwhile, President Gitanas Nausėda received his second jab a little earlier, which was not mentioned on his agenda.

“The president has already received his second dose. The first dose was administered publicly to encourage people to get vaccinated. And the administration of the second dose was adapted to the head of state's schedule and the family doctor's recommendation,” Dovile Salkuvienė, a spokeswoman for the president, told BNS.

She said there was no public need to put the vaccination on the president's agenda.

Aistė Šukšta, spokeswoman for Health Minister Arūnas Dulkys, has told BNS the minister will get the second vaccine jab later this week when he returns from a working trip.

Lithuania's leaders and the health minister received the first shots of the AstraZeneca vaccine on March 22 to promote public trust in this vaccine.
