An incident may have occurred at the Belarusian nuclear power plant in Astravyets, near the Lithuanian border, the Radiation Protection Centre reported on Sunday, adding that there was no change in radiation levels in Lithuania.
“Information appeared in the Belarusian information space about a possible incident at the Belarus Nuclear Power Plant. The incident is said to be linked to a malfunction in the reactor's cooling system,” according to the Centre's announcement.
Lithuania's State Nuclear Power Safety Inspectorate (VATESI) has asked Belarusian institutions to give information about the situation at the Astravyets plant, the Centre said.
Levels of radiation in Lithuania remain unchanged, according to the announcement. Radiation monitoring information is published on the Centre's website.
