Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service (LHMT) has declared a nationwide “hydrological drought," according to the Environment Ministry.
This followed measurements taken on Monday, which showed that the water levels in 28 out of 48 measurement stations were lower, or at the lowest average level.
This included parts of Lithuania’s largest and second-largest rivers, Nemunas and Neris.
According to LHMT, despite expected rainfall and cooler weather, it will not have a big effect on the water levels in rivers and lakes.
