Winter made a cautious entrance into parts of Lithuania overnight into Monday, as residents across the country’s northern and western districts shared snowy scenes on social media.
Meteorologist Gytis Valaika wrote Sunday evening on the Facebook page Orai ir klimatas Lietuvoje that snow cover had already formed in several northern regions.
“The most snow has accumulated around Tauragė and Raseiniai. In some areas, snow cover reaches about 2 to 3 centimetres. It will increase slightly overnight. The first visit from winter is officially recorded,” Valaika wrote.

Speaking to LRT RADIO on Monday morning, forecaster Vytautas Patašius said some districts had developed snow cover as thick as 5 centimetres.
The winter scenery, however, is not expected to last long.

On Monday, precipitation will be limited and mainly in the form of rain. Daytime temperatures will range from 0 to 5 degrees Celsius, with slightly warmer conditions along the coast.
