Summer in Lithuania is a time when nature invites you to slow down, unwind, and explore. While many rush to the seaside or foreign resorts, it's well worth visiting the treasures we have right here – rolling forests, crystal-clear lakes, striking sand dunes, and nature trails that bring you closer to the land.

Lithuania is home to five national parks and dozens of regional ones, so there's no shortage of choice. We've selected seven exceptional places to visit this summer – perfect for both active travellers and those seeking peace in nature.

Dzūkija National Park – Skroblus Nature Trail (12.4 km)

One of the cleanest streams in Lithuania, the Skroblus, hides in the heart of Dzūkija National Park. The trail winding alongside this spring-fed stream offers a deep dive into a unique ecosystem – full of mosses, springs, and marshy meadows. It’s one of the few places in Lithuania where nature remains truly wild and untamed.

Tip: Visit early in the morning – the dewy moss and gentle murmur of the stream create a magical atmosphere.

Trakai Historical National Park – Varnikai Nature Trail (5 km)

Just a few kilometres from Trakai Castle, you’ll find yourself surrounded by tranquil nature. The Varnikai Nature Trail runs through forest and wetlands and is suitable for visitors of all fitness levels.

Žemaitija National Park – Siberija Observation Tower (15 m)

Standing near Lake Plateliai, the Siberija Observation Tower offers one of the most beautiful panoramic views in Lithuania. From the top, you can see Lakes Plateliai and Beržoras, the Siberija Bog – a valuable wetland declared a telmological reserve – the village of Beržoras, the southern part of Plateliai town, and the Liepijai Forest.

Curonian Spit National Park – Nagliai Nature Reserve Educational Trail (1.1 km)

The so-called Dead Dunes are one of the most unique natural phenomena in Europe. This otherworldly landscape was shaped by strong winds and human activity. The educational trail leads through the reserve, revealing the history of vanished villages, dune ecosystems, and the fragile relationship between people and nature.

Aukštaitija National Park – Šiliniškės Ridge, Nature Trail (16 km)

While the lakes of Aukštaitija are well known among holidaymakers, the lesser-known Šiliniškės Ridge offers an impressive viewpoint. From here, you can see the surrounding forests and a lake-filled landscape resembling a mosaic. It’s an ideal spot for photographers or those seeking a peaceful retreat in nature.

Rambynas Regional Park – Rambynas Hill

Rambynas Hill is a symbolic site associated with ancient Baltic rituals, the promotion of the written word in Lithuania Minor, and the spirit of the national revival. From the top of the hill, there’s a sweeping view of the Nemunas River and even into the Kaliningrad Region. In the evenings, the site hosts concerts, poetry readings, and summer festivals.

Sartai Regional Park – Sartai Observation Tower (36 m)

Lake Sartai is the longest in Lithuania, and its intricate, branching shape can best be admired from the purposefully built Sartai Observation Tower. Nearby are popular water sports locations, nature trails, and old homesteads. In summer, the Sartai area becomes a living gallery of nature.

This summer, rather than chasing exotic destinations abroad, why not discover the richness of nature and culture in Lithuania?
