A one-day strike by workers at 13 major airports in Germany led to the cancellation of some flights from Lithuania to the country on Monday.
Air Baltic’s Vilnius-Hamburg-Vilnius flight was cancelled on Sunday, while Ryanair’s flight from Berlin to Vilnius and Lufthansa’s Frankfurt-Vilnius-Frankfurt flights were cancelled on Monday, according to Neringa Čiukšienė, a spokesperson for Lietuvos Oro Uostai (Lithuanian Airports, LTOU).
At Kaunas Airport, Ryanair flights to Berlin and Cologne were also cancelled on Monday. The airport’s website reported that Ryanair’s flight from Berlin, scheduled to land at 15:30, would not arrive.
“We haven’t received any information about cancellations for tomorrow; everything is running as planned for now, and the airlines haven’t informed us of any further cancellations,” Čiukšienė told BNS on Monday.
The 24-hour strike, which began at midnight, involves public sector airport workers, as well as ground services and security staff. The German airport association ADV said over 3,500 flights were affected by the industrial action, impacting around 560,000 passengers.
