Starting this autumn, users of Vilnius public transport will be able to pay the fare with contactless bank cards or smart devices.

According to JUDU, a Vilnius municipality company, the city’s buses and trolleybuses were equipped with new composters that can accept contactless payments last year. The function will be activated this autumn.

“We seek to digitise the way people buy tickets. Digital tickets offer more flexibility and make it easy for the city’s visitors who are not familiar with local public transport payment procedures to buy a ticket,” Vitalija Ročė, JUDU spokeswoman, is quoted by MadeinVilnius.lt.

Currently, riders of the city’s buses and trolleybuses can can buy paper tickets from drivers or use mobile apps m.Ticket and Trafi.
