Vilnius Airport’s departure terminal access road will be closed from Monday and vehicles will be diverted to other places for short-term stops or parking.
The passage allowed cars to drop off passengers right in front of the departure terminal on the second floor of the airport.
As Lithuanian Airports announced on Wednesday, in May this year, the so-called “Kiss and Fly” area will only be available at the PC and P3 airport parking lots. Cars arriving passengers will be able to park for 15 minutes free of charge.
“Next year, we will open a new departure terminal, which will double its capacity from 1,200 passengers per hour to 2,400. To ensure smooth operation of the capacity, this year we are actively implementing the reconstruction of parking lots and traffic scheme, which will ensure both convenient access to the new terminal and better management of traffic flows,” Arnas Dūmanas, head of the Infrastructure Development Department of Lithuanian Airports, is quoted in the announcement.

Once the reconstruction of Vilnius Airport begins, the old ramp leading to the entrance of the departure terminal will only be available for service transport and for passengers with individual needs who have filled in a form in advance.
To manage the temporary changes in Vilnius Airport’s approaches, over 10 staff members have been recruited to provide information and help passengers navigate the reconstruction period around the clock.
The transport access reconstruction project, which is being carried out in parallel with the construction of the airport’s new departures terminal, will be completed in October 2024. The works are being carried out in phases to minimise the impact on parking services during the transition period.
According to Dūmanas, the reconstruction at the country’s largest airport will fundamentally change the existing traffic circulation scheme, making it clearer, more oriented and more convenient for passengers to reach the new departure terminal as well as the existing terminal.

According to the traffic scheme redesign plan, the area for parking and car traffic will be extended to 17,000 square metres. All current parking lots will be merged into a single one. This is estimated to double the traffic capacity.
During the reconstruction works, Vilnius Airport will continue to operate long-term multi-storey car parks where cars can be left for longer periods.
From 3 June, the third and final phase of the access reconstruction will start and will change the traffic pattern. Further details will be available in mid-May.
Lithuanian Airports urged passengers planning to travel to Vilnius Airport by car to check the latest parking arrangements and diagrams, as the usual access routes and parking spaces will be changed.
