Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis on Monday signed an order on recalling Lithuania’s Ambassador to London Eitvydas Bajarūnas for consultations, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The ministerial order suspends the functions of the ambassador to the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland, the Sultanate of Oman, and Portugal as of October 19 until “constructive and productive work in the embassy is restored”.
The minister’s order entrusted Bajarūnas with the functions at the Foreign Ministry’s Strategic Management and Analysis Department related to the preparation of a strategy for strengthening transatlantic relations.
At the beginning of October, the delfi.lt news website reported that inspectors from Lithuania’s Foreign Ministry found that Bajarūnas abuses his authority and inappropriately communicates with his staff at the embassy in London.
On Monday, Bajarūnas stated that he is suffering from psychological abuse and asked for an independent investigation into the situation at the embassy.
Previously, Bajarūnas said he had become an instrument in a political fight.
