Lithuania wants to agree on a German brigade deployment plan “as soon as possible” and not necessarily by the end of the year, Lithuanian Defence Minister Arvydas Anušauskas says after meeting with his German counterpart in Vilnius.
“As soon as possible, not by the end of the year,” the minister told reporters on Wednesday on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Vilnius. “[In order to be able to] finance, build, design, we need to have a plan soon.”
“Of course, many things can be delayed, but I think the minister and I agreed that this has to be done as soon as possible,” he added.
The minister made the remarks after a bilateral meeting with German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius.
The latter told reporters on Tuesday that Berlin should draw up a plan by the end of the year to deploy a German brigade in Lithuania.
